"FluteFling" Aberdeen 2017 : 4th Nov.

Post by kenny »

A few minor details to be finalised, but we now have enough sorted out to be able to announce this :

"Aberdeen FluteFling" 2017
Sat.4th Nov. 9.30am [ registration ] - 04.15pm
Venue : "Musicrange", 12 Shoe Lane, Aberdeen AB10 1AL

"After 4 years of successful events in Edinburgh, the "FluteFling" is branching out and heading North to Aberdeen. Two highly respected flute players - Sharon Creasey, from Glasgow [ Boehm-system ], and special guest Davy Maguire from Belfast [ simple-system ], will share their knowledge of playing traditional Scottish and Irish music in classes over the course of the day, also performing at a concert of flute-playing in the evening [ see separate event ].
As well as the day’s tuition and concert, there will be a "welcome" session on Friday night, a "post-concert" session" and also a "Farewell" session on the Sunday lunchtime / early afternoon.
The concert and Friday / Saturday sessions will take place in the "Blue Lamp" in the Gallowgate.
Venue for the "Farewell" session has yet to be confirmed.
Full cost for classes : £50.00. Concessions : £40.00 - inclusive of entrance to the concert.
An online advance-booking facility will be added very soon - watch this space.
The organisers gratefully acknowledge financial assistance for this event provided by "Creative Scotland", through the "Tasgadh" awards scheme administered by "Fèisean nan Gàidheal".

If anyone would like further information on any aspect of the weekend, please contact me either here or by PM.
Look forward to meeting any of you who can make it.
Thanks, Kenny

Aberdeen Washington? Now that would be nice. But highly unlikely... seeming especially so to anyone who has ever been there.

If the link works, and if anyone's interested, we had a great weekend of music, and Gordon Turnbull has a report with some photos up on his blog. See link below :

Tell us something.: I started with playing bamboo flutes. But I transitioned to primarily playing the Boehm flute a few lessons ago with the aim of getting good music instruction. However, I've been transitioning to playing Irish Traditional Music on simple flutes.
