I thought Arbo did a fine job on those--we've already shared some discussion over these tunes, but I do want to say again that he's knocking one hell of a fine tone out of the flute and playing with a really contagious enthusiasm--I love the almost-harsh barking pulses that he plays with.

He had wanted me to do recordings of these tunes as well. One of these tunes--Green Mountain--is very familiar to me as I've played it and played it in session for years. The other--Crooked Road to Dublin--is a tune that I've read through several times but have not yet made my own.

I'll share those recordings here as well. Like I told Arbo, I'm not completely happy with these recordings--but if I waited for recordings that I was completely happy with, I'd never post anything.

These recordings are, of course, still me. There are things I do pretty well and I think I did them pretty well here; things that I usually don't do so well on, I most likely still didn't. For good for or bad, they are mine.

I was making a clip of this little Metzler left handed band flute today to send to two of
my pals who are lefties to see if they might be interested but I had too much fun playing it
to let it go for now.

It plays really nicely. I was reminded of the tune by hup's video.

A tune I learned but never play that often it's a great tune. Sorry for the dodgy timing half way through
I started thinking of my poor neighbors and all the piccolo practice lately.

Still trying to get a nice clip of my Jem piccolo maybe tomorrow.

Thanks Doug! sorry it was not played on one of your flutes. Btw, I still have that Bb with the extremely large first finger hole.... anything you can do about that?

Hi,

I got this recording from John Carlos playing at Sligo Summer School this year, but I can't remember the title of this tune :

Any idea ?

Many thanks.

Cheers,

Pascal.

PS : The recording does not justice to John's playing cause it has been made with a cell phone.

A couple of new video clips from me, done to give a work out of my latest overhaul/repair flute and demonstrate it to its owner. It's a probably early C20th anonymous German "nach Meyer" style jobbie - one of the pretty decent ones.

I'm afraid these are only on Facebook, but should be on open-to-all viewing. There will be an album of "after" photos too, but I haven't had time yet to edit and upload them.

Demo 1 - scales, Alloa House (air), Michael Coleman Set (reels)
Demo 2 - Morwyn y Pentre Set (3 Welsh tunes)
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Playing around with my playing style here...trying for more of that "on the edge" sound:

Open to thoughts, comments, advise to never play again...it's all good.

Clip of me trying out the new Copley Delrin F:

For Sake of Old Decency

Kieran O'Hare gave us the tune when he and Liz stopped by the Riley School when they played a gig here in Cincinnati.

Hello. My wife and I recorded two set dances. She played a Bb/F concertina and I played a Grinter C flute.

The Orange Rouge (set dance) - Bb/F Concertina and C Flute Duet

The Rambling Rake (set dance) - Bb/F Concertina and C Flute Duet

Though my C flute is a little difficult for me to play, I enjoy playing it very much!

Cheers,
Tomoyuki

How about a sample of this in your more usual style? Your phrasing sounds a bit rushed in places. ie the note lengths within the bars, the sub division of the beat? The main beat itself seems fine.

I was in a kinda slow jiggy mood tonight.... so I recorded these two jigs just on a whim.... some mistakes, but hey.... it was a first take and I went with it.
