Northumbrians Fingering.

Post by MaxFlute »

Hi all.
Have just taken ownership of a lovely set of Evans (7 key chanter).
Anyone have any good tips for a handy fingering chart and online tips?
Ta!

The fingering is relatively easy.
Keys are used for other notes, but the top hand first three fingers are on top, with the thumb over the hole on the back. The other hand's four fingers are over the bottom four holes.
One finger off at a time.
Put other fingers back on their hole when you move to the next note. ONLY one finger off at a time.

So, assuming you have an F key chanter:

LH thumb: F
LH forefinger: E
LH middle: D
LH ring: C
RH fore: Bb
RH middle: A
RH ring: G
RH pinky: F

I'm sure you'll enjoy your new Evans pipes.

This tutor is pretty comprehensive and probably the best on the market.
Available as a pdf or to purchase in hard copy.

There's a Burleigh 17 key set in D, with two complete sets of drones (4, and 6) on Ebay right now, really inexpensive.
