Hi guys, I'm new here and am looking for some advice, the bass drone on my Evans SSP in A tunes almost at the end of the pin. The drone reeds are seated such that there is no opportunity to add hemp to the reed in order to bring the tuning down. Any thoughts on what I should do?
Cheers.

Contact the maker, maybe?

If there is a bridle on the reed, you should be able to move it to let a longer part of the vibrations tongue (1millimeter maybe ok), it should allow you to tune it right...

The reeds are (i think) northumbrian style, plastic hemped on to a brass body, will try adding a small amount of hemp to shorten the vibrating length of the reed. Cheers

Shortening the tongue lenght will raise the pitch. Lenghtening it will lower the pitch.

A small blob of wax on the tip of the tongue will drop the pitch of the reed. Better that than using the bridle. The bridle is best to set the volume and air demand. Open the reed with the bridle and you can increase the amount of air the reed takes.

Yes Teds advice is spot on, avoid moving the bridle if its set up well, ie balanced .they can be very very sensitive .
I use micro blobs [what a word! ]of bluetac to flatten the reed .
