I hear that beeswax is used for the tuning...I notice my zampogna arrived with beeswax already in some of the holes--does this mean it has already been tuned???

I have managed to get some sounds out of it, and it sounds very pleasing to the ear.

My uncle's friend is very passionate about the zampogna, and he is willing to teach me, so YAY! :D

yes and no. Whoever you got your zamp from tuned it to their environment, but if it has cane reeds, that will change. You will frequently see that zamp players keep a glob of beeswax somewhere (usually on the front of the mainstock) on their set with a little pick to fine tune the holes as needed.

I think it has plastic reeds. The spare reeds included with the zamp were definitely plastic.

Thanks for all your help people! My Uncle's friend gave me my first zampogna lesson last week!

I learnt that I need to lightly wet the tops of the drones/chanters so that they fit snugly, as well as the mouthpiece, so that the bag holds air better.

Really excited! :D
