UPPER POTOMAC PIPERS WEEKEND
January 8 - 10, 2010


The Pipers Weekend offers 2-hour long classes at a variety of levels and the opportunity for private tutorials for enrolled students in Uilleann pipes, Scottish small pipes, border pipes, Northumbrian small pipes, flute/whistle, fiddle and hammered dulcimer and repertoire for mixed-instruments. A Friday night roundrobin session, Saturday concert, late night jams and student-led mini-classes round out the offerings.

Instructors include:
Jerry O'Sullivan - uilleann pipes
John Skelton - flute, whistle
Cleek Schrey - fiddle
Iain MacHarg - border pipes, scottish smallpipes
Bob Mitchell - border pipes, scottish smallpipes
Ian Lawther - northumbrian pipes, border pipes
Maggie Sansone - hammered dulcimer

Update: Early Bird registration for the Upper Potomac Pipers Weekend ends on Tuesday, Dec 1 2009. Here's the latest event lineup from organizer Joanie Blanton:

Shepherdstown, WV - Upper Potomac Pipers Weekend
Friday, January 8-Sunday, January 10

Weekend retreat featuring classes, individual tutoring, concert and sessions for a wide variety of bellows-blown bagpipes, fiddle, flute and mixed instruments. Piping staff includes Jerry O'Sullivan (Irish uilleann pipes), Ian Lawther (Northumbrian smallpipes), Iain MacHarg (Scottish smallpipes and border pipes), and Bob Mitchell (Scottish smallpipes) along with a special Irish music focus featuring Cleek Shrey on Irish Fiddle, John Skelton on Irish flute and whistle plus Breton and Galician Repertoire and Maggie Sansone on hammered dulcimer. All classes are held in the relaxed retreat atmosphere of the Shepherd University campus center and the surrounding historic buildings.
