New box

We have some evidence, however, that you may have to pay for the reeds.

New box

Post by Bretton »

Hi. I just received a new free reed instrument from Italy yesterday.

It's a GiUSTOZZi model 11/A. 2-voice (2 reeds per note).

The keyboard is setup like this:

I like it.

:)

What a pretty little thing! Hope you have a lot of fun with it!

As a Lilly player, I appreciate the portability of a small box, and as that's what I'm used to I don't really mind the single reed sound.

Presumably the Chord is D on push and A on pull?
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that schwing

We can't argue with that, it's copybook stuff for the basses.

:D heh, not sure why I bothered to ask that - I think I had another question but couldn't remember what it was!

Your question probably was if i played basses too? Sure, but not as much as the melody side though

Hi Brett, that's a beautiful box there! Congrats

Nice Picture!

Could you do one that gives a bit of scale - maybe next to another box (rechance a Lilly), or with a ruler in view? I'm trying to imagine how small this thing really is!

Here it is next to a Susato high D whistle.

I think Benny McCarthy plays the very same little box,
He uses a puppet of a little baby playing it on stage.

How did you find out about this model?
I don't see it listed on their website. Is there another outlet for their instruments?

It's under "Diatonics" and then "Small Line."

They have larger ones (more reeds) with the same kind of keyboard (one regular row and a small 2nd row of 3 or 4 buttons).

1. I'm a single-reed kinda guy...I thought completely dry tuning with a 2-voice box would be to my liking, and I do like it much better than any wet tuning I've tried, but I really prefer the single-reed sound. One reed is soooo mellow and sweet.

Looking at their website, it looks like they do a single-reed model, the 5/A? I tend to agree with you on the sound - I have a one-row toy accordion modified to single-reed per Dale's instructions somewhere on the web, and I prefer it to two-reed wet or dry as well.

Would it be totally gauche to ask about how much the factory charged to build this for you?

Thanks for sharing,

The initial price was about $400 (US). However, I then paid an extra $50 for tipo-a-mano reeds, $50 for the wire transfer to send them the money, and about $100 for UPS International Express shipping (ouch!). So it ended up being about $600 to get it to my door. Still not bad, I guess, considering the price of accordions.

Came with a nice case and a single strap.

They didn't charge any extra for how I wanted the keyboard setup.

Hm. This appeals to me.....

Although I need to go single-reed.
