Hi there!
I'm trying to find an information about an album "Inchiquin" by Inchiquin (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inchiquin-Vinyl ... B009EVPSMG). It was recorded in 1976, and the members of Inchiquin were Noel Hill, Tony Linnane, Tony Callanan and Kieran Hanrahan.
Does anyone nows something about this album? Or even have a digital copy? I'll be grateful if you can share it with me.
Thanks.

I have the LP as well as a recording they did while doing the Irish Folk Festival tour in Germany in 1977, at that point they were Hill & Linnane with Barry Moore/Luka Bloom as their guitar player.

There isn't really much to say about it. It was 1976 and they were very young.

So, you want to say there is no need to listen to this album?
I can't. Because it is interesting, what was it like in the beginning.
Besides, it is young Noel. :D
I do understand that you won't make a digital copy of this album for me. Thanks for information. :)

I don't think I said anything about that, one way or the other.

The question you posed was a rather open ended one: Does anyone nows something about this album? . The answer is yes but I wasn't quite sure what else to say about it. If you have any specific questions, I'll give it a shot, if I can.
it is young Noel
Well, yes, no doubt about that.

It was not about something you said. What I'm saying is that making a digital copy from LP is quite hard and I'm not sure you are going to do it for a total stranger. If I am wrong - sorry.

I also wrote there -

Well, yes, no doubt about that.
I wanted to hear the young Noel playing, not see him.

Here are two clips, one from each recording. There are glimpses of things to come, of the developing chemistry between Hill and Linnane. I still love listening to the two of them together (or Linnane in any combination): I saw them several times during the early eighties, just after they recorded their lp (which still is the milestone it was then, it has aged well and not dated at all).

I was at their first reunion concert in Ennis. Linnane came on first and did a half hour set with Mick Conneely, lovely as always, complex, slightly introverted fiddle music. Hill did a set then with Brian McGrath, being very much Noel Hill. Then after the break it was the four of them launching into the Ballyconnel/Drunken Landlady set that opened the lp. The chemistry was all back and it was just so lovely, they knocked sparks off eachother and at times it was like they were levitating. Mind you, I have seen them a few times since but that spark they had the first time after their break wasn't quite there (perhaps the audience anticipation was less, that first night really was high energy) even if it was still lovely to hear them together.

But even on that first recording there are hints of that and even before hitting twenty Tony Linnane was already a beautiful fiddleplayer.

Anyhow:

Inchiquin 1976 : Gorman's / Congress

Inchiquin 1977 : Star of Munster / Bucks of Oranmore

Yes, I've seen this recording. :)
I don't know, I think he is great. Didn't have a chance to meet him, but a friend of mine is his apprentice - he says Noel is a strange, but really amazing person. And incredible concertina player, of course.
Mr. Gumby, can you share "Inchiquin" and this live recording with me?

It is quite hard to make from Russia and when you are just a postgraduate student.
Money rules the world, you know. =/
