I'm a flute player and have been asked to play Kaval (that I've been given) in a new work by a local composer ... snag, despite 3 hours and 'A beginners guide to playing the Kaval' downloaded from the internet and looking at various players on You Tube I'm not getting anything like a Kaval sound out of the instrument. Can anyone out there offee any advice PLEASE !!! I only have till March before the new work premiers :o :-?

The "Beginner's Guide" is the best instruction you can find online.
Don't be surprised if you don't get a good sound after 3 hours - it takes a good while to get a tone at all, and years to develop a GOOD tone.
It is an instrument, which means, it has to be taken serious, it has to be learned, and practiced - do you REALLY believe you can learn to play an instrument within two months?
I can ask my kaval teacher if he would consider giving skype lessons, but even if you spend several hours practicing each day, it is very unlikely you'll be playing away till March.
The next important question - is the kaval you have any good? The internet stores are full of unserviceable instruments.
