Rap-Country fusion

I know, Rap-Country Fusion is less probable than Chinese
Opera-Mississippi Delta Blues Fusion, yet here we are.
I heard Cowboy Troy when he appeared with Big & Rich on the
show Las Vegas, and I said, "That's hilarious, I gots to get me some
of that!" So I got a used copy from Amazon's marketplace (for Pete's
sake, you shouldn't pay more than $6 for a CD these days...)

It's amusing. It isn't for hardcore fans of either country or Rap, it is for
folks who can only just tolerate those genres, because it's a sendup
to both. Cowboy Troy's flow (he calls his style "Hick-Hop") reminds
me of Will Smith when he was still called "The Fresh Prince", and
the Sugar Hill Gang. Troy definately stopped llistening to Rap
around 1992.

Conclusion: I love Fusion. It makes me smile.

I don't know about Cowboy Troy, but if I hear "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" one more time I"m gonna puke!!!

Most "country" music nowadays sounds like the Southern Rock of the '70's to me:

How would this differ from vintage Tex Williams? His classic Smoke, smoke, smoke that Cigarette is as close to rap as you could get. Or the talking blues, for that matter.

Ol'Tex died of lung cancer, by the way.

Johnny Cash is so wonderful.

I have a friend that hates the Cash, and I just don't understand it. Especially since he LOVES Neil Young, but says he doesn't like Johnny Cash's voice.

You mean you never heard KMC Kru's "Devil went up to Michigan"?
That song was hilarious. In that version, the Devil goes up against a
DJ called "the Butcher", scratchin' records to decide who gets a soul
and who gets a "fresh" golden turntable. I kid you not.

A sample:

"When the Devil got done scratchin'
Everyone knew he wadn't no joke.
'Cause the records caught on fire,
The turntable went up in smoke!"

The only way it could have been funnier would be if the Devil had
won, and the Butcher had popped a cap in his demonic behind.
But, lamentably, it ended the same way Charlie Daniels' version does.

Shel Silverstein wrote A Boy Named Sue, as I recall. He's best known as a poet and children's book author (Where the sidewalk ends, etc.

Yeah, Silverstein actually wrote a large number of songs, several of which have been hits. "The Cover of the Rolling Stone," as recorded by Dr. Hook comes to mind.

Ol' Shel was a columnist for Playboy back in the 60s- really, I did read it for the writings-REALLY.
