Lovely new album of Welsh Trad Music on Hurdy Gurdy

Post by jemtheflute »

Forgive my intrusion onto the String Forum (no, I haven't had a damascene conversion as a player :boggle: :tomato: ), but I think you may enjoy this - I hope so.

Perwg - Sille Ilves
Forthcoming in hard copy CDs, available to stream live now on Bandcamp &/or purchase/download - absolutely gorgeous and highly recommended!

A unique collection of traditional Welsh melodies played on hurdy-gurdy (perwg in Welsh).

Sille Ilves / hurdy-gurdy, voice, fiddle
Martin Leamon / bouzouki, guitar, 1 row melodeon
Ceri Rhys Matthews / voice

Recorded, mixed & mastered by Jens Schroeder @ Dreamworld studios, Pembrokeshire, West Wales. Released 20 March 2013

Recorded simply, using vintage Neumann mics and a customised valve desk, sound is of audiophile quality.

(disclaimer - Sille and the others involved are friends, but I have no involvement or financial interest.)
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Many thanks for the heads-up on this lovely album ... beautifully different, but with a voice (or singing style) reminiscent of Mari Boine or Sofia Jannok 8)
"I'm playing all the right notes—but not necessarily in the right order."
