Ravi Shankar RIP
Maybe he didn't play a traditional Irish stringed instrument but the man was a musical giant.

The first album I ever bought was of him, and the two thereafter as well.

Re: Ravi Shankar RIP
Saw him in concert with Ali Akbar Khan many years ago, circa 1969. Unforgettable.

Re: Ravi Shankar RIP
I recently befriended a man who, though not musical himself, has been a lifelong fan of music in all genres. He has more records, tapes, CDs, videos and historical musical artifacts than I've ever seen in any one place! And he lives for the music.
The ONE item he insisted I sit down and absorb was Shankar's performance at the Monterey Pop music festival in 1968. Of course, I had seen it before many times. But wow, I'm not sure I've ever seen a more inspired performance. I cried real tears.
How do you thank a guy like that?
