Calliope House Sheet Music

Post by lizshane »

Hi,

I am getting married in a few weeks and I really want the string quartet to play Calliope House/ The Cowboy Jig. I can only find basic sheet music for one fiddle. Does anyone else have any other sheet music that I could get a copy of? I would really appreciate it.

I am also looking for sheet music for Natalie MacMaster's Mother Nature and Volcano Jig. So far, I have only been able to find music for one instrument on her website.

Thank you so much!

Hi Liz,

Well, the nature of traditional tunes like these is that they're monophonic - melody only. So it's unlikely you'll find arranged versions of them. Unless someone like your string quartet sit down themselves and write out 4-part harmonized arrangements. A basic melody + chord accompaniment would not be terribly hard for an experienced arranger to do.

Basic transcriptions of Calliope House, Cowboy Jig, and Volcanic Jig are all available on TheSession.org. Mother Nature may be too fussy to have appealed to the Sessioneers. :-)

Keep in mind that Calliope House was written by Dave Richardson, and Volcanic Jig and Mother Nature by Natalie Macmaster - all of whom hold copyright on their respective works. Cowboy Jig dates to at least 1883, and would be in the public domain.

Good luck!

Oh heck, here's Mother Nature, just for fun. I left out the fussy chord vamp middle chanting part, and didn't notate double stops and variations.

The flow is: A part with 1st ending - [fussy part] - B part - A part with 2nd ending - C part.

Did you attend the Tom Waits School of Arranging?

(Tune-o-Tron rendered a fairly disturbing midi!). :o

Is there any other kind of midi?

How funny ... It's apparently reading the "Part B" and "Part C" comments as chords, and taking them as a cue to auto-harmonize the rest. I'll say this: It does sound exactly like my attempts to accompany ITM on the piano.
