Who is Emmanuel Mora Torres ?

Post by Jim Troy »

got a prezzie of a violin , made by Emmanuel Mora Torres , San José , Costa Rica , 1956
it's a cracker, and seems to have sympatico , with Ed Reavy .

anyone have info on this maker/luthier ?

the only thing i could find was , a luthier by that name , on a street with a few other luthiers .
i got the impression it was a guitar community.

There are an awful lot of good violins in the universe.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

True. And each has its own interesting story. Although many would be hard to track down these days it can be surprising what is still there to be found.

Edited to add: I noticed that one went in auction recently for c. £800

Wombat , that would be me , i went with a pal to the auctions , in Bonhams , Sotheby's and Brompton's . we got this one in Bonham's.
had a great time playing the violins . about 200-300 of them . i recommend the auctions, for an eyeopening experience of playing some of the nicest fiddles available, some of which seemed to play without any difficulty whatsoever.
and also, there's the world of slightly odd intrigue , in violin dealers.
the background plot of The Red Violin , comes to mind.

i still would like to have some info on this Emmanuel Mora Torres . Emmy , if you are out there , talk to me.
the instrument has , unusually for an instrument of it's quality, as it speaks very well over the complete range, a highly varnished neck, but i'm not complaining.

[THREAD REVIVAL - MOD]

Hello there,

Emmanuel Mora Torres was my father who died fifteen years ago, who was an excellente violin maker like my grandfather (whose main instrument was the spanish guitar. I would be quite interested to know if you are interested in selling this violin.

Yours sincerely,

Emmanuel Mora Iglesias

I don't know if that poster visits this forum much anymore, but it must be gratifying to know that your dad's work is still being well appreciated.
