Uke to Mandola

I have a tenor ukulele that I have tuned like a (tenor) mandola or tenor banjo. I am finding that the mandolin tuning is great for playing melodies. So, here's my question and I don't know if anybody has the answer: what nylon string gauges would work the best for mandola tuning and, if anybody knows, for tuning up to mandolin tuning. The strings are a bit slack with the mandola tuning. You might say, why not just buy a mandola or mandolin. And I will answer, I working up to it.

Now I am slinking back into the nether world of string instrument cross breeding...
