- Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free - Location: Loren has left the building.

That's a really nice clip, Loren.
Listening to it reminds me of the main problem I had, and sometimes still have, adjusting to mandolin. Coming from guitar, I really missed the sustain and I was tempted to try to fight the instrument to get more sustain, as you might if handed an inferior guitar while yours was being restrung or something. Of course, you just have to accept that it is not 'that kind of instrument' and play it accordingly.

i knew i had become a real mandolinist when i started liking tremolo, both listening to it and playing it.Wombat wrote: Listening to it reminds me of the main problem I had, and sometimes still have, adjusting to mandolin. Or played it with his teeth? Or used a mic stand for a slide? Or played it behind his head?meemtp wrote:Or set it on fire?
Hey-- did y'all happen to notice the name of the guy who made the mandolin? It's Bussmann! GORGEOUS instruments:

That's a big part of it I think. The other part is noticing that certain runs sound great without sustain. There was one really fantastic repeated run in that clip that was like that.rh wrote:i knew i had become a real mandolinist when i started liking tremolo, both listening to it and playing it.Wombat wrote: Listening to it reminds me of the main problem I had, and sometimes still have, adjusting to mandolin.
