Non-celtic uses for a tennor banjo?

Post by turtleneck »

I'm looking to broaden my horizons a little bit.

What other types of music do people flat pick on a tennor banjo. Preferably, with GDAE tuning so I don't have to retune my heavy strings. :)

I've played some Ukranian tunes and it sounds surprisingly good.

I would think any type of improvisational or "jam" music would work well.

Of course, there's always those two types of music most associated with a flatpicked banjo: Polkas and Dixie Jazz.

I do not feel obliged to believe that that same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

Tell us something.: Of course I'm not a bot; I've been here for years... Apparently that isn't enough to pass muster though!

Jazz of course, the original music for the Tenor Banjo. Of course Jazz players like CGDA hence it being called Jazz tuning.

Being a banjo player myself, I have to quote what is said to me from time to time:

"Why don't you go trade that banjo for a dog, and then shoot the dog."

...so there ya go....another use for the tenor banjo. :boggle:
