display?
My little assortment of flutes and whistles have been knocking around on my bookshelf for far too long. Do we know of anyone who makes some sort of stand or rack for putting them better on display?

Re: display?
You could ask about stands on either the whistle or flute threads. The topic has come up many times. Google images is your friend too.

Out your way northwest US check with EthnicWind, or, Ronaldo Reyburn, or Casey Burns Flutes and ask if they have custom stand making interests.

Re: display?
Think about it. The limits are endless.
Recent thread on the topic.
I make my own stands. Stands are easy to make. Board. Dowel. Drill some holes. Need suggestions with peg sizes? Look here.
Too many every day objects to mention can be re-purposed as well.
Susato sells stands. Commercial recorder stands are available too.
Let us know what you come up with.

I was actually thinking of something that will hold them horizontally...you are right though about Google images. On my way to look!

Re: display?
That was the inspiration for one of my flute racks actually. Made of red oak. Holds eight flutes or low whistles horizontally. But it does not mount in the back window of a pickup truck.ytliek wrote:Gun rack.
I store my flutes in gun cases. Why not display them on a gun rack?
This style of rack shown on Ronaldo Reyburn's site is fairly simple to make. Dowels, board, drill some holes, voila. You'll want to drill the holes for the small dowels in at a slight angle to the larger dowels so gravity can keep the whistles in place.
One issue to be concerned with when storing whistles horizontally is that moisture/condensation will collect in the tubes. Vertical orientation will use a gravity assist to in the clearing out of the droplets. If you swab the bores after playing you may pay this caution no mind.
