Re: A Song For Denny (this reply is from Denny's wife)

Post by Denny »

This is Denny's wife....opened his laptop and found all your kind thoughts and wishes.

I am playing the song for Denny right now. He isn't awake, but sometimes can hear and once in a while does respond. I want him to know/hear your words so I have been reading them to him. His time grows very, very short -- although he has already surprised the hospice nurses by holding on as long as he has. He has been at "end of life" for several days now.

Pancreatic cancer is a terrible disease...merciless and aggressive . His illness came out of nowhere -- he hadn't been sick until he developed blood clots in his lungs over Labor Day weekend. As it turns out, these were caused by the tumor changing his body chemistry. He tried two different types of chemo but neither one worked. He opted for in-home hospice on Christmas Eve.

Hospice has allowed him to stay at home and let his family be his nursing team. He is never alone, nor will he be. It is a tough enough journey without having to face it alone. I have a recliner set up next to his hospital bed so that I can sleep next to him & hold his hand through the night. We have been able to control the pain with medications and hospice has been exceptional in helping us administer the correct amounts.

Denny is truly a one-of-a-kind man and he will be sorely missed. However, as a deeply spiritual man, he believes in the continuity of the human soul. I'm sure he will find a way to cross time/space and make his presence known in unique ways. The "other side" will not be a barrier to a soul like Denny's!

Again, thank you for the wonderful posts. These mean a great deal to all of us.

With warm regards,
Adena Ray (wifey with nowhere near the wit of Denny, but with the good sense to marry him!)

It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.

Thank you for letting us know, Adena. It feels better knowing he has heard our farewells.

Know that there are many here who would do anything in their power to help Denny, or you, rest easier.

Thanks so much for your post, Adena. Your husband is a really special man and has touched a lot of hearts hereabouts.

Ah, that song puts me on the floor every time. Big hugs to you, Adena, and to Denny. I'm so glad this crazy old universe gave you each other. Tells me there's some good in the world ...

A song that's always moved me (first heard as a broadcast tribute to the late Davy Steele) and came instinctively to my mind too on hearing about Denny.
And we in dreams behold the Hebrides.

The beauty of a living thing
Is not the atoms that go into it
But the way those atoms are put together.
The cosmos is also within us;
We’re made of star stuff.
