Undisputed illness
The Undisputed is ill with some upper respiratory infection. He believes it might be SARS or Legionnaire's Disease, or maybe that disease that killed off everybody in Stephen King's 'The Stand.' The Undisputed is not a very good patient. Like most men of his generation, illness regresses him to surly adolescent.

Well, this explain the low number of OT threads this week.

- Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

Hot and sour soup
About 6 cups chicken broth (bouillon works, if you can find some that doesn't have quite so much salt, that's better)
a little oil, preferably peanut
1 dried chili pepper (Hunan or one of those deadly Thai peppers; if none at hand, you can use maybe 1/4 tsp Cayenne, but it's not the same)
a few scallions
1 lb tofu, cut into sticks
1 porkchop, piece of chicken, or something, sliced, shredded, or cut into sticks.
around 1/2 cup rice vinegar. White works in a pinch
about 1/4 c cornstarch
1-2 tsp white pepper (black pepper works, but doesn't look as good)
a few tbsp dark soy sauce or maybe 1/4 c light soy sauce
(Add anything you like -- a dash of sesame oil is always good, water chestnuts work well, tofu and meat are not necessary, but if you're having it as a meal, you probably want some sort of protein in it.)
heat the oil; break the chili up and fry it in the oil. Reduce the heat a little and saute the scallions and meat for a minute or two. Make sure it's not too hot and add the stock. Cook until everything's done and well blended. Mix the cornstarch with about 1/4 c vinegar and add that. Also add the soy sauce and 1 tsp of white pepper. Keep adding stuff till it tastes good and the consistency is right. It should still be soup consistency, but thick enough that the pepper doesn't all rise to the top.
Serve either by itself or over noodles. This is the absolute best dish for respiratory infections. If nobody has the energy to make it, send someone to the local Chinese place to bring some home.

Re: OT: Undisputed illness
Might I suggest that you rent '28 Days Later' to learn of one possible diagnosis? Perhaps you are infected with something that will shortly turn you into a raging, red-eyed, hyperbolic, growling, teeth gnashing maniac.DaleWisely wrote:The Undisputed is ill with some upper respiratory infection. In other words, you may be on your way to becoming Corrine Brown.

"His Generation?" I've heard them accused of making a bad soprano d whistle before, but never regressing one to a surly adolescent. I'd order a Feadog right away!DaleWisely wrote:Like most men of his generation, illness regresses him to surly adolescent.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
