Simple solution......... when somebody takes offence at a joke........ is simply to apologise to them, stating 'no offence meant'.

Tell us something.: I have played bagpipes for several years. Open heart surgery in 2014 took me out for several months and I have not yet returned. I have begun to pursue the penny whistle instead. I'm looking for advice and friends in this new instrument.

@PB - I did not claim or imply I was offended, which I wasn't. Curious might be more appropriate. Curious as to why she had that reaction to a rather silly word play joke. After this incident I made my department supervisor aware of the exchange. The supervisor is female. She found the coworker's claim groundless. Nothing ever became of it. This coworker and I have interacted cordially since and nothing more was ever said. So perhaps it was a one off. Some other stress of a work day being vented.
