Kenny's post in the Whistle Forum has reminded me that I really like the name of this place: 'Dunoon'. It has such a great sound. I like to savour the sound as I pronounce it. I didn't want to derail Kenny's thread; hence this separate post here.

Dunoon is also the place mentioned in one of my favourite limericks:

There was a young man of Dunoon
Who always ate soup with a fork
For he said as I eat
Neither fish, fowl, nor flesh
I should otherwise finish too quick.

That is all. :D

You don't like it? I really like that one. There is rhyme. You need to search for it.

It's a pleasant enough place, less industrial than many towns on the Clyde. Last time I was there (1977) there was a U.S. nuclear submarine base there; not sure if it still is.

I found it.

I get the impression that we are to understand that in yer man's milieu, the prevailing custom is to drink soup directly from the bowl.
