Tell us something.: I started with playing bamboo flutes. But I transitioned to primarily playing the Boehm flute a few lessons ago with the aim of getting good music instruction. However, I've been transitioning to playing Irish Traditional Music on simple flutes.

Great thread title, btw.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

It made me look, then I laughed.

Was expecting something about the Seamus Ennis signature air of course.

I had to abandon my plan to make Calvinesque snowmen this winter...and I must admit that the Easter Island snowmen are far more creative.

It was a reference to Calvin and Hobbes...interpreted perfectly by kkrell. I assume the picture is of John Calvin, the comic strip character's namesake?

I got that, thanks. No struggle there. Calvin and Hobbes is one of my favorite comic strips, up there with Pogo.

You assume rightly, sir, and there my struggle starts. The last thing a lapsed Presbyterian needs is more of him, and then to face the notion of Reformation snowmen brightening my yard? Although the whiff of idolatry's a nice touch.

And here I was hoping I could just do a quick hit-and-run and get away with it...

Had no idea there was any actual namesakery involved. We're gettin' deep, there.

No Reformation snowmen. I had plans to make snowmen like those created by Calvin the comic strip character, but scrubbed them due to lack of decent gloves!

I just looked up the Wiki article on Calvin and Hobbes. I was looking for something in particular: its influences. According to Wiki, there are three: Pogo, Krazy Kat and Peanuts - all great, but I've always assumed that a big influence for Calvin and Hobbes must have been archy and mehitabel. Then again, archy and mehitabel was such a great strip that its influence must be on pretty much everything after it.
