The weather is brisky, you break out the whisky,
You have a couple more and then you start to get frisky
So you go to the bar, but the freakin' bar is closed.
Calling ahead is something that you wouldn't have proposed
'Cause the place is always open - or so you would have thought -
Your plan is now B and your spontaneity's shot.
So you get back into the cab and say: "Home, James!"
And the guy behind the wheel clears his throat as he frames
A question. A car passes, and he pulls onto the street.
The magic is over; just the taste of defeat.
"Would you like another bar?" he says, "X or maybe Y?"
"I'm just a creature of habit, man," you say to the guy,
"So, no. The crib's fine. You know where to go."
He guns it and he runs it while you're feeling so-so
About this trip of ending up from where you started all along,
And the mom-voice inside your head is singing that song:
"You should've stayed put. You could've had pie.
You could've saved your money letting sleeping dogs lie.
And since when were you a psychic? You couldn't even call?"
She's chewin' your ear off. And then out of the cab, you crawl
Back to the crib and a night of quiet living.
Not the worst way to go if it's gotta be on Thanksgiving.

*mic drop*
