Hello again! I fell away from the Irish music a few years back, so I don't get around to the sessions anymore, but I may pop in sometime to say hello. Which sessions do you attend?

I'm doing a bit of playing on the flutes, mostly F right now because it requires less air than the D, but gives a lovely mellow tune, nice and low. Then I try my Swiss picc again with the Basler music. But I always circle back around to a whistle for learning tunes.

Hey Jim Stone! Nice to see you around too.

As for FB and the death of this sort of group, C&F, I can't really say. I'm casually in FB to keep track of friends and family, but the proliferation of ads, the political mishagasa, the food pics and vaca pics and memes and cats and. . .now I can't always see the important stuff like death and birth notices. I used to be a cutting edge sort of Cat, but now I'm a Luddite.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Ooh! "Mishagasa" :) What's that? In this case, Google wasn't my friend. Nice word, though.

Wot? Have you actually sabotaged bits of Facebook? Are you one of those who 'edit' Wikipedia? :)

The ONLY good thing about FB over C&F is the 'LIKE' button. In re: mishagasah yes, foolishness. But it sounds better in Yiddish!

There are a number of spellings, but in the media, at least, I've more often seen it rendered "mishegoss" (pron. mish-eh-GOSS), meaning foolishness, yes, but also craziness, chaos, senseless or madcap behavior, tomfoolery. It's directly related to the generally more familiar adjective "meshugge".

An L.A. deli was described in a review as a dignified restaurant "missing the mishegoss associated with the deli experience." A New York perspective, no doubt. A cage full of parakeets would be a 100% mishegoss. :)

Oh, I like that one.

My wife does FB and shows me stuff regularly but it's too stream of conscienceness for me. It's like having a conversation while stoned. C&F feels more intimate, like conversation over a good beer, both slowly savored.

Hello Tyghress, nice to hear from you again. I'm just back after a period of spending too much time on some technical forums, some of which turned a little nasty around the edges. I looked in on C&F again and it felt like coming home after an arduous journey.

Someone needs to explain the knot picture to me. I get the frayed knot pun but not the "musical reference."
The Walrus

What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?

The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.

I didn't get it either, so the frayed knot was a gift that I couldn't pass up. Perhaps Ben might be kind enough to help us along.

The tune: "The Frayed Knot". Do you know what? ... I've just looked, and the tune that was taught to me as "The Frayed Knot" is actually "The Knotted Chord". Still works for me. :)
