March Blues

Post by Nanohedron »

March is drear and March is cold;
Being tough is getting old.
But let us get into my car,
And we will go to Zanzibar.
There is a little bird that sings
For me alone, of many things
As they once were and how they are:
He lives, I hear, in Zanzibar.
Souks and alleys! Strange song and spices!
Silks and feathers! and the only ices
There are sherbets for a mere dinar:
We'll find it all in Zanzibar,
Where magic looks like butterflies
That sail upon the pearly skies
Like little dhows that come and go -
To where and from, no one can know.
For Zanzibar is all my dreams,
Far from the cold and the chapping-creams
That are our lot here where we are:
I want the swirl of Zanzibar.
So why sit here all dull and grey?
Pack your things. Let's make our way
As strangers in a stranger land
Where gold and gems adorn the sand
And heady incense climbs, fanned
By whispers. I promise it's not far,
So let us get into my car,
And flee from where the cold things are:
O let us go find Zanzibar.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Up North in Oldham, tempers fizzle
Due in part, to daily drizzle.
But it does happen, once or twice
That folk can say "It's turned out nice".

Yes, you are more Northern than me. But We're at the borders of Yorkshire here, and "oop narth" is a saying.
Besides which, there is an Oldham in London, and unless you make it clear, all those provincial Londoners think you're talking about them.
I'm going up to Orkney next month. Does that count?

But what a wonderful snowy morning. I am sure my apple blossoms are dead, so no picking up apples off the ground this year!

Yeah, it's May already. Saw this shot on the local news last night. It was taken somewhere north of me (we only had cold and rain here). I think he's engaging in an existential act of protest.

It's gorgeous in the Highlands this week.
And we in dreams behold the Hebrides.

Here it's been crazy up-and-down unseasonable extremes. Today, finally the temperature is more seasonal for my area (63F, 17C), and it appears to be stabilizing. I can throw my windows open again!
