Bob Dylan was announced as the Nobel Prize winner in literature today.
I was just a little taken aback, but not really surprised. All the prizes are somewhat subjective, literature moreso. Dylan has given voice to a wide variety of characters, painted many moods, which presumably favors him in the eyes of the committee.
Congrats to him.

Re: Dylan
Same here, and not really surprised when I remember that I far prefer reading him to hearing him - nothing against his music, which I enjoy, but for me, as poetry I think his lyrics stand almost best on their own. The first time I read his lyrics, I was struck by a depth that I'd somehow missed when hearing them in song.chas wrote:I was just a little taken aback, but not really surprised.
