Moving to Maryland!

Post by brewerpaul »

Charlene and I will (hopefully) soon be following the grandkids south to the Frederick MD area. One thing I'll miss here is the Irish band I'm in, and the readily available opportunities to play at sessions and hear live music of all types. Anyone here from that area? Any suggestions for these and any other good places/things to see,do, and eat will be welcomed.
Oh yeah, hiking and kayaking suggestions too. Thanks!

I live in Lovettsville, VA and work in Frederick. Been up here about 5 years now. I'd be happy to help you out if you ever have any questions...if you do make it out this way, we should do lunch sometime! :)

There's an open session at Magoo's Pub every 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday. We'd all love to have you out!

A non-exhaustive list of other sessions in and around the DC Metro area can be found here:
http://www.greenfeet-dc.com/sessions.htm

You'll be near the Potomac, and there's lots of guided and unguided hiking, kayaking and tubing spots.

I haven't been, but I've seen lots of people boating and canoeing on the spot between Frederick and Harper's Ferry.

Thanks Wanderer-- that's great information. I'll get to that session for sure. I currently get up at 5am for work so evening sessions are a problem. When I (semi)retire, that problem will go away. I look forward to meeting you.

I know the feeling. I get up at 5:30, so I sometimes miss the session when I'm too tired to make the effort.

But that's what afternoon naps are for ;)

Look forward to meeting you too!

There is also an Irish pub in Westminster (go east on I-70 to Mt. Airy, then north on 27 -- the pub is right downtown) that has a sesiun. Have been to the pub, but not in the evening, so can't comment on the goings on there. Food was good, though!

It is Wednesday evening, so I guess you'll just have to "call in sick" on Thursday!

As for food, in the DC area you can hardly go wrong for food and live music!

Not to worry Whistlecollector-- I will retire from fulltime work next Friday! I'll work per diem up here, then look for something per diem in Maryland. Hmmm...maybe at one of the brewpubs.

Update-- we're hoping to close on our Maryland house next week. The real estate machinations have been truly heinous but it will be over soon.
I did make it to the Magoo's session during our last trip down here (to hand deliver delicate items that we didn't want to trust to the movers, including my whistle making lathe). The people were really friendly, and excellent players.

Sorry I missed you! I've missed a number of the magoos sessions recently due to various life events. Hope to catch you next time you go.

I missed last night too. I was too exhausted from unpacking. I hope to shoot for the next session though.

I did too. I hadda get up at 2am Friday morning to take my wife to the airport, so I decided to skip session and go to bed early.

But I'll try to make the next one too :D
