Help with blocking Telemarketers calls

Hey people, I know I don't get down South here in the Pub very much, as I'm not a chatty guy, so maybe that is why I really think I have found GOLD!, in something that helps eliminate a lot of unwanted telemarketing calls on your home, or even cell phone (from what I understand), and it's free too!

https://www.nomorobo.com/ Is the link to the great people that are making my life a little better now. I was introduced to it through my cable company (Comcast/Xfinity Voice), when I called to find out why, all of a sudden I was getting a dam burst of calls that I never experienced before. They couldn't explain that, but told me about NoMoRobo.com, and I am forever grateful for that suggestion. It has dramatically pared our unwanted calls down to a minimum, thankfully.

Check it out, and I hope it helps you as much as it did us. Habanada!

PS Oh, by the way, it took a good 3 days for Comcast to set it up after I changed my settings (and for it to take effect), so it there might be a delay for you as well. But it's definitely worth the wait!

Here in the USA there is a national do not call website. I've used this for many years and continue to renew which seems to block a lot of calls. Then again, I don't take too many calls from anyone not even family. :D

We have all of our phones, landline and mobile, registered with the do not call list, but still get tons of calls.

Yes, I think the do not call list only blocks new telemarketers from calling, while any business that you've dealt with previously (established contact) can continue to call. And, the worst part about established calls is it allows any businesses that do business (associates) with them can also call you. Do Not Call has so many loopholes that it doesn't do much but it helps. At least I like to think it does. :)

I did get set up with Nomorobo via our Time Warner landline and it seems to be working well. Note that your phone still rings, but only once. The call then gets routed to Nomorobo and killed.

One trick that can help if you use an iPhone--you can keep your own list of blocked numbers. (This only works when they don't mask their number, of course.)

When you get a telemarketing call, hang up, and touch "Phone" and then "Recents." Find the number that just called that you want to block, and touch the blue "i" in a circle out to the right of the number. Down towards the bottom of the screen that opens, click "Block this Caller."

I know it won't help unless, like me, you use your iPhone as your main phone. However, in that case, it can be sanity-preserving.

The same technique also blocks nuisance or prank callers.

An Android phone can block calls the same way. At least mine can. Could actually be a feature of the SIM card though - no way to tell the difference.

If I'm not busy or just in an ornery mood I take the calls and screw with them to see how long I can keep them on the line. The robocalls are no fun but every now and then I get someone to pick up and have some fun. If it's "the warranty company" calling about "the ford" I act elated that someone finally called and then I start pleading my case to get the car back from the repo man. I go into a big routine about how I've been in jail for a few months but now I have the money to catch the payments up etc... They usually get pretty frustrated but sometimes they get confused and push me up the chain to a supervisor who wants my credit card information and stuff. Then it gets really fun.

Paul,

That is truly creative !

Here's a call I got today:

It's a scary world out there. I set up a server on a laptop at home once, for a class. There was one IP address from France that probed 13 different folders on my machine in 45 seconds. Yikes !
