A.k.a. Roslin Castle

Post by Tunborough »

Today, I came across a third appearance of the tune known most commonly as Roslin Castle.

Roslin Castle has been recorded by many, including Whirligig, Rory Campbell with Old Blind Dogs, and Alasdair Fraser, and arranged by Joseph Haydn (catalogue Hob. XXXIa:191).

I've also heard it as a Welsh song, Y Fenyw Fwyn (The Gentle Maid), recorded by Paul Sartin and Benji Kirkpatrick on Folk Music of Wales, and by Shannon Mercer and the Skye Consort on Wales - The Land of Song. (See also viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66169&p=871662#p871662.)

Today, I heard it as The Widowed Bride, as recorded by Brian Hughes and Garry O'Briain on The Clear Air.

Anyone know of any connection between these three names for the same tune?

Tell us something.: I enjoy playing blues on low whistle and other styles. Most music I listen to is jazz & rock but I enjoy low whistle. I own many Celtic based CD's.

I don't post regularly and wish I could add more to the topic.

I'd like to say this, my husband recorded the tune on his new album. Talbert did a great job recording it on a bass a.
