humbled after Hurricane Sandy

Post by christelrice »

Hello folks,

I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to the outpouring of concerned tin whistle players whom expressed concern for myself and my family during and after hurricane Sandy. We are still displaced, yet slowly getting back on track. I wanted to share some insight with you regarding this whole situation.

what a journey christel. great observations. i recall what one author described as three things all people in crisis have to work through:
- they have to accept a new identity (before I had a home, now I'm homeless)
- the illusion of control vanishes (where is my security now?)
- values are reassessed (what's really important comes to the surface)

blessings to you and your family as new norms are established.....

Hugs from here Christel. You and your family have been drastically challenged in life... to start over... and to start from scratch.

You lost everything, home and community, and worse, you lost your livelihood which provided the means for supporting the family.

I can't even imagine how difficult this undertaking may be. I just want you to know that there are decent human beings in the world that do care.

Even in these most difficult days, you have donated your time everyday with the soup kitchen delivering food to those people who still do not have electricity nor food. Unbelieveable Christel.

If you need help, just ask.

Thanks for posting here as I know your world has been turned upside down.

Let the music keep your spirits high!

Tell us something.: I play high and low whistle with Traditional Irish Music being my focus of interest. I love Irish music and consider it as a direct connection to my Irish heritage. I enjoy participation in whistle tours, chatting with other players, and learning much from the many talented folks that frequent C & F.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. Know that your strength and caring is an example and will see you thou the darkest hours.

I offer a little song we do at Session. Sing it for you and your community.

Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh hard times come again no more.
Chorus:
Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh hard times come again no more.
Chorus

There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away,
With a worn heart whose better days are o'er:
Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day,
Oh hard times come again no more.
Chorus

Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave,
Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore
Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave
Oh hard times come again no more.
Chorus

Take Care

Thank you all for your support here on C&F. I have found some wonderful folks here, folks whom I have never even met have reached out to give a helping hand. Please know that I appreciate you all and these kind words have given us the strength to keep moving forward and face another day with renewed faith in the human spirit. Cheers all.

Hey y'all,

It has been a minute since I have checked in on C&F; I wanted to let you all know that we are officially (as of 2 weeks ago)living on board our 43ft sloop, Catherine here in Brooklyn and I am up and running to teach tin whistle (Skype) lessons on my sailboat. Now if that doesn't sound the least bit appealing, then i will carry on, but if you want to continue with lessons or you are just starting out, please feel free to contact me at

Thanks everyone, hope all is well in your world.

Heartening to know that some semblance of stability has returned for you.
Should we expect a preponderance of hornpipes, now that you're afloat? :wink:
