I picked up a Dixon aluminium whistle in E at the weekend. I've been distinctly unimpressed with Dixon flutes and Low Whistles in the past, and only really tried the whistles because they were cheap and there happened to be an E amongst them. I was expecting it to be rotten, but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's very nice indeed - not just "good for the money", but actually good.
Very nice sounding in 2 octaves, tuning seems good. I've yet to use it in a session (it being in E and all) but I've no reason to think that there's poor intonation, based on playing it for a few days.
Anyway, fair play to Tony Dixon.
