At the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann convention weekend before last, Joanie was kind enough to put down a set of soundclips for all my whistles. I've provided the "dry" version and a version with a little reverb added:

D Blackbird
D Blackbird w/reverb
C Blackbird (same as C Mellow Dog)
C Blackbird w/reverb
Eb Blackbird
Eb Blackbird w/reverb

D Mellow Dog
D Mellow Dog w/reverb

Bb Freeman tweaked Generation
Bb Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb
C Freeman tweaked Generation
C Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb
D Freeman tweaked Generation
D Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb
Eb Freeman tweaked Generation
Eb Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb
F Freeman tweaked Generation
F Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb
G Freeman tweaked Generation
G Freeman tweaked Generation w/reverb

D Freeman tweaked Feadog
D Freeman tweaked Feadog w/reverb

Here, for reference are the soundclips I received last fall. It's interesting to listen to the natural reverb in these compared to the reverb I've added to the Joanie Madden soundclips. The clips below were recorded in a church sanctuary with no studio reverb effect added:

Eb Blackbird
D Blackbird
C Blackbird

D Mellow Dog
C Mellow Dog (this is the same as a C Blackbird expect with a green whistlehead and a brass tube)

Bb tweaked Generation
C tweaked Generation
D tweaked Generation
Eb tweaked Generation
F tweaked Generation
G tweaked Generation

D tweaked Feadog

D tweaked Sweetone
C tweaked Sweetone

Here might be a place to mention ...

After Lunasa's (wonderful!) Somerville, MA concert Saturday night, I had the pleasure of sitting with Sean Smyth as he tried out a selection of my whistles.

I had already done the same with Kevin Crawford and Cillian Vallely when they performed awhile back in Connecticut, and Kevin has been playing Freeman tweaked Generations in performance ever since. (Needless to say, I was thrilled to see Kevin come out and start the Somerville Lunasa show on one of my whistles!)

Sean commented that he liked the tweaked Generations, and he especially liked the Mellow Dog (as did Joanie, btw.) I got Kevin to try a Mellow Dog and a C Blackbird, which he took and said he'd start playing in performance.

A few days later, he posted this on Lunasa's Facebook page:

Quote:
Your very welcome Jerry,
played the new 'D' last night and will work in the new 'C' whistle over the next few gigs.
Sean is thrilled wit his whistles too and heard playing them in hid hotel room at 9am which is very unusual for him.
Keep in touch.
Kev.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Very cool.

My mellow dog I bought about 10 months ago is still the only whistle I play in sessions...it's a wonderful whistle.

I'd not heard your tweaked feadog before, and I must say that sounded really nice as well.

The tweaked Feadogs keep surprising me how good they are. It was the first whistle I handed Joanie, and she tossed the soundclip off in a matter of seconds. She didn't comment, but I thought that whistle suited her (she did keep it).

Best wishes,
Jerry

While we are (kinda) on this topic - I just recently purchased a Mellow Dog D/C combo, which I can't stop playing! I probably switch the head every two days (sometime every day - just depends). Am I going to wear out the head switching it so much?

No, you won't wear it out. Just be mindful of the clear lamination on the soundblade ramp when you tug on the whistlehead.

Best wishes,
Jerry
