Need help in identifying two tunes.

Post by AbraXas »

Starts at 4:17 at the end credits. I think it´s John Mcsherry who is playing.

The tune played by Brian Finnegan in the intro

Thank you very much for the help.

Sorry, no luck yet on the Finnegan slow tune.

The one that follows is "The Road to Errogie" by Scottish fiddler Adam Sutherland.

Hey I know the Brian Finnegan Tune.

He plays it at kerrywhistles.com (cinema section - "Flook USA 2007) in a set with "Forest Baby" and "Morna".
He called it "The blue [can't understand]".

Maybe you can.

Anyway: I've written the sheetmusic for you: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/10165

Have Fun :)

I'm curious then, why is the title "Heaven" there?

That's a good try, DerElligh. The more you do, the better you get! But I'm afraid your transcription is pretty far off.

First, the tune is F# minor pentatonic, with two sharps, F# and C#. In ABC, the K: designation could be F#minor (3 sharps) or F#Dorian (4 sharps) - the extra sharps are gapped out. But your K:DDorian misses it completely. Since the key choices at thesession are limited, you could substitute Amajor or Emajor, or even Dmajor, with an explanation.

But even then, the notes don't represent what Brian plays in that clip.

Try this instead:

X:1
T:Mystery Tune (The Blue Keys)
S:Brian Finnegan, Ceird an Cheoil
S:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp-RndJFKz0
N:{B} and {A} are true appoggiaturas here, stealing half the
N:value of the following note.

All in all it was a.........try ^^

I've added the ABC notation at thesession.org. Let's see what will happen ;-)

I don't really know why I named this tune "heaven". Somebody told me about that
name before I had discoverd that it is named "The Blue...whatelse". Maybe YOU
can understand it!?!?!?

No no no ... You don't have my permission to post my transcription at thesession, and not under your name. Please remove it immediately!

If I was not clear that "try this" means for your personal playing only, not to copy it to thesession, then accept my apologies. (Ja, ich nehme an, daß es wohl hier mit einem Sprachfehler zu tun hat.) But please correct the problem. Thanks.

Oh No :-(
I am sorry.

(Ja tatsächlich ein Sprachproblem! War nicht böse gemeint.)

I have correct the entry at thesession.org. Now I have to upload my old
version of the tune.
I hope it will work. I will watch it the next days. If you discover that it does not work
(before I do) please inform me immediately.

Sorry again :-( I've just understand your comment wrong.

That's OK, DerElligh. It is really my fault.

Your Partitur version is still there, so you can re-create your original from that:

|:FFBe fBBc|Bca2 c2BA|BBBc efBB|BBBA Bcec|
FFBe fBcz|Bcef c2BA|B2 BABc e2|Bcec f4:|
|:f2 babc' f2|ffez c2B2|B2BA Bcee|BBBc A2F2|
FFba bc'f2|ffec a4|abaf ecf2|ecB2 BeAF:|

Just change the key to K:A, and it will look better. :-)

After you straighten things out, I might add my transcription to your comments there.

Okay. Thank you :-)

And thanks for your version of "the blue I don't know", too.
That is actually the version how I play it.

I just wasn't able to write it down in ABC notation as well as you did.

Thank you, too, DerElligh.

You should change the key signature on thesession from Adorian to Amajor, or else the C#'s will not appear.

I just listened to the Kerrywhistles vid.

And I think the title of our mystery tune is "The Blue Keys".

Maybe that can be fixed on thesession, too ...

Unless you delete your post, the next time John Chambers' tunefinder spider drops by, it'll get indexed and end up in the tunefinder anyway.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
