Here's a video of my basswhistle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eeGLGXxwGs

I going to try to make a PVC Subcontrabasswhistle this summer. So if you hear of any Earth tremors in Kings Mills this summer, it's only a test.

Me auld Grandmother used to bless us with, "May the road rise to meet you and the wind at your back not be your own."

Best wishes.

Does this thing really have "Gee" written on the side? Hmm...

Is there a key of "Gee?" Be nice to know the key.

I know, his is still bigger. And he can actually play it. This one made sounds, but it took two men and a boy to cover the holes. Maybe I should try a tabor pipe...

yes, I stuck "Gee" on it. And it's in it's own key. I made it as a gag for a player who I know who called me on the phone and said "Can you make me a low G whistle?" I said sure and set about making one as real one. I wanted something to hang over the table at a fair coming up, so I killed two birds with one whistle and took the biggest piece of pipe I had laying around and made whistle-like holes in it. It actually does play, but not with a real great tone. I didn't bother about the hole position since this was a visual thing. You'll note the smaller of the three top holes is usually the top one but not in this case.

You should have seen the look on her face when she walked in the door at their gig when I brought it to her. She was shocked and not sure if I was serious or not. You could see her eyes flit from the whistle to my face to the whistle as she tried to work out if she should scream or laugh.

But it did prove to me that the physics works when scaled up too. You just have to figure out how you are going to cover the holes.

The physics works the other way too. I made a High-High-D that I put a slide on it to cover the holes because they're too close together for fingers.

Daniel, I wish I had gotten into ITM and whistle making while I was still living at the corner of 747 and Hamilton-Mason road. We could have had some fun with bits of tube.
