Been forever since I've been here and been out of the game for some time now. My images no longer work and I am unable to edit my really old posts so I'll have to repost them when I have a chance. My whistles have been in a draw for the last several years. :P

Nick your whistles are so beautifull, you should get a professional Photographer taking professional Photos of it. I say this not only as a professional Photographer but also as a whistle collecter who think its a pitty to present such a great collection this way ;-)

anyway, are these some you made or some you play yourself?

Tell us something.: I love Irish whistles and I make them and play them and at times I enjoy talking about them. I also play Uilleann pipes and love Celtic music in general.

I'd be happy to have you take some pictures for me! They are all whistles I make, play, and sell Ethnicwind.com

;-) i was not looking for jobs
and if i would not live far away from you, i am sure, we would have found a way to work together which siuts both of us
but i hope you can find a good photographer near you, your beautifull whistles deserve it

the photos on your website which i know of course are at least different from whats mostly seen and show the whistles quite well, but there is much more possible and be sure, good photos help to sell good ;-)

anyway, enough of this and back to the topic
so this is, your, or lets say, private collection, the collection of the Whistler Nick and not the maker?

As a corrolary to that question ... I would think that any maker would have an extensive collection of others' whistles for purposes of comparison and testing. And the caption "a few of mine" does imply that there are others. I guess the thread title is not "Photos of your entire collection". :-)

Yes, these are some of those whistle I make, no other makers in there, I do have about 50 other various whistles and flutes from other makers as well... but those are mostly collecting dust.

Tell us something.: I like whistles, flutes, lyres, cittern/mandolin/bouzouki family instruments, as well as heavy and nasty slap bass. Languages, linguistics, history (especially Migration Period and Bronze Age Europe), cuisine from various parts of Latin America, chili growing, bushcraft, and the works of JRR Tolkien also tickle my fancy.

-Brass Burke Viper Pro Low D - just got it and am playing the most the past few days!
-Susato Kildare Low D
-Susato low G
-Susato B
-Susato E
-Susato bodies for low E, low F, A, Bb, C, Db, D, and Eb. (yes, I like susato)
-Freeman blackbird C
-Freeman blackbird D
-Freeman blackbird Eb - One of my all time faves, second only to burkes, very responsive!
-Freeman bluebird D - My bedside whistle that I play before sleep each night
-Burke Session Bore Brass D - My #1 favourite whistle
-Burke Aluminum A
-Two Generation Bb -The brass is one of my car whistles that I play at lunch break at work
-Generation Eb
-Generation F
-Generation G - For warding off dogs
-Feadog D - My other car whistle that goes to work with me each day. I usually play my Bb car whistle, but I bring the D for playing along with CD's in my car in proper key.
-Clarke Original C
-Clarke Original D - My first whistle! Lots of sentimental value
-Tweaked Clarke Original D - My quiet whistle for covert whistling

Then after that it's some recorders I have had for many years, before ever taking up the whistle. My first woodwind instruments! I use these for a lot of medieval tunes, and other types of folk .

and then some fifes that I am not sure why I bought... The yamaha "flucorder" thing I can play, but the metal one I can not even get a proper sound out of. Then a crappy practice chanter that I attempt to play on, but usually just cause terrible noise of dying ostrich. These are the only ones in the picture that hardly get used at all.

and an ocarina at the bottom that my friend brought me from mexico. Fun for making some simple tunes !

At the top is an old Gemeinhardt flute I got at an antique store, and needs the pads on some keys replaced. Is up for sale if anyone is interested. It plays, but needs maitenance from somebody who knows more about this type of flute than I do.

. My main instrument is Octave Mandolin/Bouzouki ( In ITM used for melody mostly, but used for many styles outside of ITM).. but, these are most of my woodwinds. A few are not pictured  I also play darbouka sometimes when I'm in a drumming mood, and I have an acoustic and fretless bass guitar, which were my main instruments when I was younger, before getting heavily into various folk and related styles.

Each time I learn a new tune, I go through and play it on most or all of my whistles, to see which whistles suit it best!

My Dion is on the left, my 3 Busmans on the right. Gorgeous work, Paul! Plus, I got an opportunity to finally break out the Pelican case.

Cocobolo, Asian Striped Ebony, Tasmanian Rose Myrtle and Black & White Ebony. All are D's except for Striped Ebony one which is a C.

I guess now that I have something to show, I can take part.
Here is my present whistles' set:

Image
Outside link for the image

From left to right:
  • Walton's Little Black Whistle D (very light aluminum, almost too light as I always fear it's gonna fly off my hands)
  • Walton's Brass D (my first, I almost don't use it anymore, great sentimental value)
  • Self made PVC in the key of C (very soft to play, a little raspy on higher octave, clogs easily because the windway channel's height is really thin)
  • Self made Aluminum in the key of E♭ (this is the better whistle I made, although I find the aluminum rather cold in the hands and especially on the lips)
  • Self made PVC in the key of D (this is the first self made whistle without the cap, still love it)
  • Clarke Sweetone C (I almost don't play this whistle because I find the R3 hole position uncomfortable, also the ♮C sucks, maybe it was a lemon)
  • Clarke Sweetone D (this is the whistle I play the most at the time because I love how I can muffle it and still hit high notes)
  • Feadóg Nickel D (I love the sound of this whistle, if only it required less air for high notes...)
  • Dixon polymer high D (probably the best sounding whistle I own)
On the side I also have several other self-made whistles, both in PVC and Aluminum, ranging from low D to high G. I cherish those whistles too, although I never use them, because they are part not only of my journey into whistle crafting, but are also a great part of my overall whistle learning experience.

I'll be on the road for quite some time, maybe through the spring and summer, but I'll have a few whistles and a Low D with me.
See you on my return, hopefully closer to be a player.

My tune's thread, just in case.
