We have a band....we're currently recording all our songs onto a computer recording studio. I amp my guitar and use a shure SM-57 which picks up the guitar amp well, but it doens't pick up the tin whistle at all. I guess the tones are too high? Does ANYONE know of a quality mic that will pick up tinwhistles? PLEASE help - i cant find any info on this.

The above is from an earlier post. Also, Barcus Barry looks good, though I have no experience with them. http://www.barcusberry.com/barcusberry/windmics.htmI've had very good luck with the MicroVox flute mic (http://www.microvox.demon.co.uk/flutepage.htm). It does a great job. The link above will show you the swan neck. I also have the M500. Using the swan neck I put it about an inch above the blade. With the M500, I've made a little attachement piece that I can position about 1 centimeter away from the hole and perpendicular to the whistle body.

Enjoy your recording session,

Hi, As an audio engineer as well as working on my second whistle CD, I do not understand why the SM-57 is not "picking up" your whistle. Perhaps you need a preamp on the mic, but I would not spend any more money since Shure makes excellent microphones. But, if you want to throw more away, try what I use: an Audio Technika (sorry if I botched the spelling. If you want the model number, write me.
Very best of luck.
