It's a really out-of-tune Eb made of brass.

Sounds Like a rare Michael Whistle in the key of E Flatley. :D
Daniel

It's my opinion - highly regarded (and sometimes not) by me. Peace y'all.

Ooo...nice one! And I have one of those too, that I have since tweaked. Ah...the miracles of sandpaper on wood. :P

I have absolutely no idea being new to whistles.....so I'm just going to fling out a guess and hope lol.

I guess it's a homemade tin whistle since its so airy.
Its made out of a piece of wood for the fipple and some pvc water pipe.
Cost of this project is about $7to $8 dollars tops. Every homemade whistle sounds different ... this one sounds like a D.

This is all a big guess since Im a greenhorn when it comes to whistles lol.

Good luck to all!! :P

Even with only one guess per person, there are enough posters on C&F to eventually guess every make and model of whistle out there, I reckon ;)

The rules: Only one guess per person. One, that's it.
All entries should consist of answers to these questions:
Approximate retail price?
Material the whistle is made of?

Hi Wanderer,

It sounds aluminium to me.

It's not top end - I'll go for an Alba - with the curvey ramp (if their website would respond I'd get the current list price - your site quotes them at 55 british poonds (@100 us dollars?)
All the best!

Well, all, the contest is over...thanks for playing everyone who participated!

The mystery whistle:
Image
This is an all-plastic whistle from the Trophy Music Company. They make the nose flute ("Humanatone") that Thom sells at the Whistle shop. They're also known for making other "kid's products" like plastic slide whistles, kazoos, etc. The link above takes you to their online catalog page that has the whistle (which they call a "magic flute"

It's all plastic, and I paid $1.95 for it six or seven years ago at a guitar store.

I'd like to talk a bit about why I chose the whistle. I wanted to pick something I was pretty sure few people had played before...so that an experienced player couldn't just guess it by being ultra-familiar with the tone of that particular whistle..though I do think it sounds a bit like an LBW. This would let people's imaginations run free when it came to listening to the sound and imagining a material and how much the whistle may cost.

After carefully reviewing all of the posts, I think the closest guess is Fearfaoin's. Most folks posted specific models of whistles (LBW, Generation, etc), and since none of those were "Trophy" whistles, they're removed from consideration. A few folks posted materials, and between them all, I think Fearfaoin and IrelandsRose were the closest. In the end, even though IrelandsRose was closer on price, I think Fearfaoin was closest on material, and so he gets the prize :)

Congratulations!

Thanks for the contest, Wanderer. I actually bought one of these a couple months ago at the mall; the price wasn't much more. I chose the yellow body model. Didn't even think about this one when guessing.

Good job, Fearfaoin.
