Makersmark letter K??

Post by Toonboog »

Hi all,

My first time posting in this section, since I usually play the flute.
But a neighbour from up the street just walked in to give me his lowwhistle.
He can't play it anymore due to handproblems.
He still plays a bit of flute and sax, but the stretch isn't possible anymore.

He bought ik somewhere in Ireland, quite a few years ago.

It has a black polymer head. The body is aluminum.
The only thing (apart from the letter D on the lower and of the whistle) is the letter K stamped in the metal a bit below the head. So a first guess would be a Kerry Whistle.

Does this Mark sound familiar to anybody?
I'm just curious if I could find out a bit about it.
For all the same it could be a tourist thing, but it could just as well be a decent whistle.

Any info is much appriciated.

Tell us something.: I'm a music teacher and multi-instrumentalist. I had a few whistles in my late teens, and I'm just now getting back into playing them.

If it looks like this but with a black plastic head, then it's an original "Kerry" Whistle. They're just re-launching it this April, but with a silver head as seen here for less than £50.

If not, post up some pictures of it, which will make it easier to ID.
