Low Whistle Player

Post by barryanderson1952 »

Hi folks,

It's been a long while since I posted. I'm not very active on the board & thought I'd post today.

I've been listening to this player recently. Thought that some here might also enjoy the music. Here are a few tunes I enjoyed.

See you all in the future:

Tell us something.: I've been a whistle player for over 40 years now, which is a sobering thought. I got started on a battered old Generation D and, well, just never stopped really!

Current gigs are The Powderkegs border morris, the concert band Trebuchet with our music theatre show The Mill Ballads www.themillballads.com, and Welsh dance band Caffl.

I don’t think those posts are quite what Peter was referencing…..

Ok, it was not my intention to spur a guessing game, particularly one that would cause ongoing bumps to the top of this thread, so I’ll clarify, though I am not intending to speak for “Mr. Gumby”.

The topic of the OP’s post is about a very problematic former (and I believe now banned) poster. Over the years there have been a number of new and/or very low post “people” promoting this individual, his music, etc. I expect you can figure out the rest……

Thanks for the feedback. Nonetheless, I'm not here to judge this player's past mistakes however true or untrue.

I've been around long enough to know we all have our own faults. I'm only interested in the music & what I can learn, that is my approach with all players. I listen to others as well. St Claires music is rather unique - IMHO.

Anyhow, for those who may enjoy his style of playing, this was posted on Talbert St. Claire's You Tube Channel:

Well, if the object of this thread was to spark curiosity about this "Talbert St. Claire" fellow, the people commenting on here have certainly done a good job of furthering that goal. I've spent an unreasonable amount of time digging through archives to see what this controversy is all about. Now I'm intrigued, and I'll definitely be checking out his album. [EDIT: I quite like it!]

Cyber night,

I agree. The music is really impressive. It's unique in the sense that it's Irish & non-Irish.

Impressive especially for a Black dude, lol. I don't think I've ever seen or heard a "Black" low whistler before, so it was very enlightening.

I have many Black friends in music, even so they don't play Irish or Low whistle.

$25.00 on Bandcamp for the entire double album is a bit steep for many, times are hard, so many cannot afford $25.00.

Take care & stay safe.

The crux of the controversy has only to do with how he presents himself as a expert in Irish Trad, and nothing else. If you're not so interested in the real deal and you like his music, that's fine, but his treatment of well-known Trad tunes and airs suggest that his claim to expertise is spurious. If he had never presented himself as a teacher, we wouldn't be discussing this.

This is not entirely true: He also has a history of bad behavior on this forum, including bad buy/sell transactions with forum members.

Ah, right: that, too. And shills. Suffice it to say he repeatedly proved unamenable in numerous ways to acting in good faith which, from its founding, C&F counts as essential to the spirit of this Board.

Really, 'nuff said. It pains me.
