Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

I would think it would be child dependent. If the kid can be taught not to run with the whistle in his/her mouth, then s/he's ready.

That is an issue because my experience with the kids whistling is they want to MARCH. We don't do that with the youngest/beginners.

Yeah, when I was a kid I had several of those bamboo whistle-type things. I never had a problem, but we had an incident with my nephew, who fell with the thing in his mouth. It cut his hard palate, which was lucky.

So I give really little ones ocarinas. They gum them, I dunno if any have ever played them or even gotten a sound.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
