Experience with a P-G-BLEAZEY high D Whistle

Post by nightmagic »

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you can tell me your experience with a Bleazey whistle.
I can't find a lot of information and only a few youtube videos.

How is this whistle to play?
If you have one, would you tell me your experience?

cheers
Lou

Not a lot here on the forums for the high D. Most of the discussions were for his Low D or other low whistles, or key of Bb.

But here - BigDavy is a regular, so you might try reaching out to him by PM

I played one, but it was back in 2006. Pretty sure I posted my review here, but I can't be bothered to go hunt it up. Here's a link:

Hi nightmagic

I have had 4 Bleazey high D whistles. They all played well, though differently. They tend to be on the loud side and as they are conical bore. play well across the octaves. The ones I have had all had different air requirements especially in the upper register.

Bleazey whistles are one of the makes that I keep an eye out for on eBay, they don't come up often, especially in the non D keys.

You will likely enjoy any Bleazey whistle you get. The olive and mopane wood ones look nice and play nicely too.

I had a Bleazey high D whistle about 10 years ago. It was an excellent whistle and beautifully made (I love the wood whistle look and feel). I ultimately didn't keep it, because it was louder than I was comfortable playing regularly. For reference, it was louder than my Chieftain high D whistle, so that's saying something. If you're cool with the volume, I recommend them. At the time they were also reasonably priced used.
Life is good.

I’ve owned two Bleazey d whistles. The first was in boxwood and one of the most fun to play whistles I’ve owned. It’s not for the faint of heart, loves to be pushed. As pointed out above, it’s pretty loud, but the sound isn’t piercing. The second was in African blackwood, and nothing like the first. It needed to be played with finesse and couldn’t be pushed at all. These were both made around 2000, so his QC may very well be much improved by now.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

I have liked ALL of the Bleazey whistles that I have owned. At one point I had every key he made at the same time. Currently have a Low D.... tried to sell it but my wife put the kabosh on that one.
