Hi, I just received my new Abell Blackwood D and I am still getting used to it. Those of you who have one, what are the intonation tendencies of it? I found my second octave D to be sharper than the other notes and I had to pull out quite a bit to get it in tune or blow less air. The C Nat fork fingering is dead on in tune.

Does it need to be warmed up more because it is wood? It seemed to get better in tune as I played.

I'm just curious what everyone's experiences are with intonation with the Abell

Is it normal for the 2nd octave D on the Abell to be sharper than the other notes?

I know nothing about the internal tuning of the Abell, but I just thought to share something I shared with another Abell player who found the beak design difficult. I had seen this done by another player to great success. If you find you don't like the beak try spinning it backwards. The two abell players that I have seen play do this and find it more comfortable. Good luck with your tuning issue.
