My first serious music endeavor was the GHB which I got interested in through the B movie, "Highlander" and the Renaissance Faire. This lead me to Celtic music in general and the whistle in particular. I dropped away form the pipes after open heart surgery. I've been dabbling with the whistle recently and have found it a way to relieve stress and depression which are on going battles. I'm trying to get a presentable set of Christmas tunes for our party at work and an Irish set for St. Pat's if a local brewery will allow me to play.

Honestly, there are days but for a whistle, I would hit the bottle. The whistle is good stress relief.

@Tylor - Yes, stress relief and relief from depression. I battle serious depression and find that when I practice the whistle and see that some tunes are coming together and are recognizable as music I feel much better. I have done something positive and constructive with my time. Better than brooding. But it is often hard to get going with practice even having experienced the benefits of having practiced. There was a writer, I forget who, who said, "I hate writing but love having written." This applies to whistle practice too.
