Whistle Instruction
Posted: Tue Feb 19, 2019 3:19 pm
Folks, this is a reference list for instructional resources. It is an experiment, and here by member request. For the time being we are including together both print (books and online written sources) and live/recorded resources (online videos, DVDs and real-time online instruction); whether Admin divides the categories at a future time will depend on how the thread grows. In this Forum the resources are expected to be primarily of use to whistlers.
Anything posted here is by member recommendation only, and is not to be taken as an endorsement by C&F Admin.
Entries will be provided by you, the membership, and it is up to you to keep the list up-to-date. Individually, you may post regardless of whether you yourself are providing the instruction, or are posting on someone's behalf. If you are re-posting for material that is already on the list, it must be an update, and be marked as such; otherwise, contact a Mod to update the original. If it is not an update, as it comes to our attention we will delete it.
This is a list only, so please keep it on-topic and confine your posts to references and links, with only such additional information as is helpful or necessary; the less, the better. Recommendation by the poster is already assumed by the very existence of the listing, so further promotion and judgments are redundant, although personal experiences may be fine. Rough examples:
▪ Acceptable: "Chiff Fipplesford. Teaches whistle, flute and tuba online. Payment on a sliding scale; email for details and hours."
▪ Acceptable: "Chiff Fipplesford. Teaches whistle, flute and tuba online. Payment on a sliding scale; email for details and hours. He helped me when I just couldn't stop my second octave notes from screeching."
▪ Unacceptable: "Try Chiff Fipplesford. Teaches whistle, flute and tuba online. He's great."
▪ Acceptable: "Whistle, Flute and Tuba by Chiff Fipplesford. Three editions, but the second is out of print."
▪ Acceptable: "Whistle, Flute and Tuba by Chiff Fipplesford. Three editions, but the second is out of print. I found the first to be particularly helpful in developing my understanding of the fundamentals of whistle ornamentation."
▪ Unacceptable: "Whistle, Flute and Tuba by Chiff Fipplesford. Long a gold standard among instructional books."
In unacceptable cases we'll leave the listing, but snip its promotional talk.
As mentioned, this thread will only be a listing foremost, so if you wish to ask questions, editorialize at length or offer in-depth testimonials about a resource, this is not the place for it; such will be regarded as off-topic intrusions, and will be deleted. Instead, start a separate thread in the Forum, or send a PM to those you think will be able to benefit or help. Remember that no listing will suit everyone's needs and goals, but if you think a listing is utterly unqualified and should not be here, contact the Mods and we'll sort it out.
Happy whistling.
