Re: RIP Pat O'Riordan
Very sad news, indeed. He was a delightful person to visit with and share a story or two. I am grateful for the whistles he made that I have collected over the years which lead me to get to know him, if just a little.
For those who are interested, here is his obit. Fittingly, his memorial service is on St. Patrick's Day.

Re: RIP Pat O'Riordan
This is sad news indeed! Pat really made amazing whistles and was such a charming and friendly gentleman. Among the different flags he had hanging in his workshop there was a German one I was happy to send him at his request.
RIP Pat, I'll play on one of your whistles tonight in remembrance of you.

- Tell us something.: Longtime member of Chiff and Fipple. I own/have owned more whistles than a person should, I think. But I’m not complaining.

Re: RIP Pat O'Riordan
I started playing (and, as if often the case it seems, collecting) whistles just before 2005. A couple years after, I sent Mr. O'Riordan an email or letter (can't actually remember which now) asking to be put on his list as one who would like to have him make a whistle for me. I had heard that the list was long, rumors that he wasn't taking more names, etc. I didn't hear back from him. I figured it was hopeless and that I'd have to live without. Probably two to three years later, he sent a message stating that he was moving along his list and my name was finally up. Was I still interested? I laughed out loud at the question and wrote back saying in a clear, but understated way, that I was still absolutely interested. I gave him the order of what I wanted.
Not long and the whistle was ready. Paid, sent, arrived. I remember the letter accompanying the whistle had some instructions and a short note that said if anything wasn't right, if there was some problem, please contact him.
Pat was a class act--kind and unassuming.
Sorry for his passing.
