Including postage that's £19.95, which is more than I would pay brand new!

(From my regular supplier - £17.09 posted.)

The postage, ebay's global shipping scheme in particular has become prohibitive. Items that could be sent through the regular postage system for a fiver at the highest are now going for four times that amount, and take days longer to get there. I used to get stuff from UK based ebay sellers often, that's by and large over now. Unless they use regular post, like many business sellers do. The cost is excessive and there is absolutely no need for it.

1. Thread title states 'Vintage'

2. Pictures clearly show the pre 70's 'ridge and dimple' mouthpieces.

Best of luck getting those from your 'regular supplier'

You can pick up old Generations all the time, if you're into that. At prices around a fiver or so and from sellers quoting a decent price for postage. They're not exactly rare. There's no reason whatsoever for being diddled out of money by Pitney Bowes working ebay's shipping scheme.

I don't really want to get into a debate over this gents (it's this kind of petty sniping that's made me reluctant to sign up here for years)

1. I'm personally not ' into that' a great deal but (as my OP stated) I thought it may be of interest to others, hence me posting.

2. I agree they are far from 'rare' (I purchased a vintage brass C only last week) but I very much doubt that Fatmac has a 'regular supplier' where he can purchase these items.

3. The postage on this occasion is £3.95, so your understandable (and oft repeated) objection to the eBay shipping scheme isn't applicable.

 Old doesn't always, (if ever), mean better - & yes the price I quoted is for brand new Generation nickel Bb, C, & D, including postage, (Eagle Music, if you want to check). :)

Just didn't want someone getting ripped off.

I misread fatmac's post above as postage coming in at 19.95. Which is a price that has come up often recently. Perhaps I put two and two together and ended up with five. Wouldn't be the first time. :P

£3.95 is fine.

Fatmac, this is getting tedious now, some people covet vintage Gens, as stated (twice now) I merely posted this in case it was of interest to anyone.

If anyone is interested it's for them to decide if they are being 'ripped off' (though I hardly think twenty quid for three Gens is major fraud)

I DIDN'T state 'old was better', nor in fact do I believe 'old is better' (in all honesty my modern Oak C is 'better' than my vintage Gen C)

I am familiar with Eagle but (once again) they are not selling vintage Gens which some (not you, not I) prefer.

Edited to include 'funny' smilies

:D  :boggle:

Have you tried calling Mr. Gumby names yet? That's my tried and true method for getting a thread locked.

In case of Generation whistles old means indeed better. At least when comparing old to new Gens. Doesn't mean that there isn't a bunch of modern day whistles that are better than vintage OR modern Generations. But they are still nice of you like that "trad sound". I once bought a vintage D at a flea market for 50 ct. Still a nice whistle.

Somewhat apprehensive about bumping this after the controversy it evoked the last time, but as I'm so pleased with my latest whistle purchase I'm taking the risk (in fear and trembling)

Finally after many years searching I've come across a 'Vintage' brass Gen Bb (my favoured pipe) but unlike the other 'Vintage' brass Gen's in other keys I've had, which had faded/chewed heads, corroded /dented tubes etc this thing (very minor teeth marks apart) is in incredible condition:

I did think that perhaps the tube was a 'modern' one but given the similarly excellent condition of the head I tend to think it's genuine (the top hole is also noticably smaller than my modern Gen's is this usual?)

And it plays beautifully, the second octave in particular is outstanding.

The only thing I'm dismayed at is the holes are badly misalinged with the fipple (so much it makes playing awkward) and I'm terrified at attempting removal as knowing my luck the head will disintegrate :sniffle:

It would be nice to hear some sound samples of your whistle. The Freeman Generation Bb would sound very similar, I believe. Then again, every whistle is different so it would be good to hear yours. Still, it's tricky getting an old head removed; you're kind of stuck between preservation and ease of playing.
