Uillean pipes have become common in metal since Troy Donockley joined Nightwish. I recently discovered a Swiss band called Evenmore, who do kind of Celtic symphonic metal. They have a pipes player (definitely not uillean pipes, I think he does GHB and some kind of small pipes). He also plays a lot of whistle, and he's quite good. This video shows him playing a Jon Swayne whistle in G or low F. It was quite a surprise to me.

Thanks for this. I just recently found Omnia, and few other bands playing a mix of styles.

I hear that Jon Swayne whistles are the roughest, toughest whistles in existence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2njKC5Iix8

Oh, I'm the man, the very fat man, who waters the workers beer,
I'm the man, the very fat man, who waters the workers beer,
And what do I care if it makes them ill, if it makes them terribly queer,
I've a car a yacht and an aeroplane, and I waters the workers beer.

... etc.

(sorry, couldn't help it, I didn't know that tune went with any other song).
