Whistle bags / pouches ?

Post by Bretton »

There used to be a couple of regulars on the Forum that made custom whistle pouches and bags. Is there still anyone around who provides this service? If not, anyone know of an online vendor that makes custom pouches and bags?

Thanks.

Try these:

For some high end leatherwork inquire here as I had some custom leather whistles cases made and they were amazing!

There's loads of crafters to fit every budget so try a little search. :)

Thanks ytliek! I did search a bit first but hadn't found exactly what I was looking for. The two etsy links are helpful... I eventually found this:

I had been going to post the link to the Leather Penny website, but it forwards now to this:

Figured you wanted to buy in the U.S, not from the UK, so I had hesitated.

Here's mine, made by a woman on Etsy.

It holds down to Low C. (The Bass A ain't in it.)

It's made to hold every chromatic key from Low C to High Eb, pretty much.

That's the sort of irony that would hugely appeal to me - but I think to pull it off one would have to be able to play really really well on the cheapy. When I have nothing better to do I might try table-weaving s single-whistle pouch...

I do it all of the time carrying a $12 Generation in a $120 leather case. I do carry a Sindt high D in leather case. The photo's two outside examples of cases are Bb and I carry a Generation Bb in one and a Roy McManus Bb in the other.

Redhawk is pretty much custom work so inquiries are necessary for the leather work. Whistle bag would be a specialty item.

I make whistle cases out of fleeced wool, so plenty of padding any size and colour combination. Pm

I just don't get the point of expensive ornate leather cases.

To me instruments are tools to do a job.

And the function of a case is protection, nothing more.

I do have my Highland pipes in expensive cases, but they're not fancy in the least, they're extremely strong protective Pelican cases.

I'm not a working musician. I do not store my whistles in the leather cases and I do have simple sock and Pelican cases as well. I've even used just a towel to roll a few whistles in. The custom leather cases are a novelty and perhaps a bit decorative used during special events. I'm basically a utilitarian for most occasions, but, I do like to support craftsmanship in various arenas. Some individuals like to wear a particular attire with decorative attachments that is beyond the daily dress routine, possibly a costume for special events or such so I don't see any issue with a little flash. :)

Some people drive Cadillacs while other people drive Cruzes when all that is actually needed is reliable transportation. Choices, choices, choices and simply put:

Cultural objects have greater than utilitarian value. They become what the Salish people refer to as "Objects of Bright Pride".

The point of expensive, ornate cases (or jewellery, or cars, or clothes, or anything else, really) is to show off one's taste and "wealth" (or skills, if home-made). Nothing wrong with that (except that the likelihood of theft increases) - buying the stuff keeps the economy turning.

Though I don't need them either - most of my instruments are stored in the cases/bags the manufacturers provided (except the whistles and a small plastic recorder - they live in a cut-off cardboard tube off a whiskey bottle) or in the cheapest protective case I thought I could get away with (I have a rather expensive violin in a Thomann-own-brand-case). My interest in tablet-weaving a whistle pouch would be the making of it - and creating another selleable product, of course.
