Shaw Whistle - any thoughts?

I am considering buying a Shaw whistle in high D. I'm wondering if anyone here who has played it before can give me some thoughts on how they found it. From what I understand it is similar to the Clarke whistle, but slightly more expensive.

I have both high D and C Shaws and like them, although I don't play them much. The windway and blade are more refined than the Clarke and the sound is more focused. They seem to require less air too. I tweaked them by pinching down the top of the windway, but only by a TINY bit. They are considerably more expensive than Clarkes.

I have a D-not a low D- I bought decades ago.

Unlike brewerpaul's mine is an air abyss, which seems to be a common observation.

My old Clarke Cs take less air. Maybe the newer Shaw's are different?

Should probably get mine tweaked.Someday.

I've got a couple, low D and high D, and they do take a lot of air. Lovely tone, but band-mates rebelled at the fact that they aren't tunable (the Shaws, not the band-mates).

Seems like harpers and fiddle players expect, nay, demand that I play in tune with them...

Go figure.

Been there, done that  . I sat on my Shaw C soon after I got it. I was able to mostly straighten it out although the hole which the crease went through is still ragged. It plays OK though.

My Shaws did take a lot of air until I pressed down the roof of the windways. Again, do this only a TINY bit. Test, repeat as necessary.
